Police Misconduct / Impersonating Police

Modified on Thu, 13 Jun at 8:12 PM

When you report to Ugly Mugs you can choose "Police Misconduct / Impersonating Police" as one of the incident types.

What is Police Misconduct / Impersonating Police?

Police misconduct is when police officers behave in an unacceptable or improper or criminal manner.

Police impersonation is when a person who is not a police officer falsely portrays themselves as a police officer.

Police misconduct and police impersonation are two different things. However, it is not necessarily easy to tell the difference between the two. For example if a person presents himself to you as a police officer and requests sexual acts in exchange for not arresting you, you may not be able to easily tell if the person is a real police officer or a person impersonating police. Due to the long-standing confusion relating to police misconduct and police impersonation we have adopted a dual category system for these types of reports.

You can report any person into this category who represents themselves to you as a police officer but who behaves in an unacceptable or improper or criminal manner.

Police Misconduct / Impersonating Police incidents are considered medium level incidents on Ugly Mugs.
